Thankfully, numerous updates and features have launched over the last few months since the release of the M1 SoC that mean a lot of applications that required emulation can now run natively. Given how frequently web browsers are used, any decline in performance is highly noticeable and can be a frustrating experience if you're dependant on emulation to complete necessary tasks. While it has its uses, emulation almost always results in a drop-off in performance because precious computing resources are needed for the translation.
While historically Mac owners have had use tools like Apple Rosetta to run applications that are not optimized, the continued development for native support for the new M1 architecture has been welcome.
